musical movement . |
Music automatically created by tracking a person's (or dancer's) movements
Because music sounds like evocative human movement -- something our Human Factory founder argued in his earlier book, HARNESSED -- here we imagine starting with human movement, and building the perfect music fitting the movement. The software tracks the movements, and on the basis of the movement (and a presumed viewer/listener position in the space) the software creates music fitting that movement. In a 2015-2017 collaboration with United Visual Artists and MONA Museum, we actually built a prototype of such a system, see in the nearby photo. The mechanism at the exhibition shown in the photo is very complicated, in large part because it was aiming for artistic effect and drama. But much MUCH simpler mechanisms are possible that capture human movement, and a variety of options for translating it into music. |
